How AK Compares
On paper, both options are licensed general contractors. The differences show up in how the project starts, how it runs, and how it ends.
A typical general contractor in Summit County builds what you hand them and quotes the job after a site visit. AK Renovations starts earlier. We help you scope the project, align your budget with the design, and provide a fixed-price proposal before you sign anything. Owner Adam Kilgore manages every job personally, you receive daily updates through a client portal, and every selection is guided so you never feel lost in a showroom. Same trade work, very different experience.
| AK Renovations | Typical General Contractor | |
|---|---|---|
| Project Management | Adam Kilgore, owner, on every project. | Crew foreman or rotating project manager. |
| Proposal Process | Fixed-price written proposal, itemized. | Verbal estimate, then change orders during build. |
| Communication | Daily updates plus client portal access. | Calls and texts, usually reactive. |
| Selections | Curated shopping lists with budget guidance. | You shop alone or get a generic spec sheet. |
| Job Site Standards | Daily cleanup, dust barriers, floor protection. | Varies wildly; often left messy mid-project. |
| Technology | AI-powered scheduling and client portal. | Paper schedules or text threads. |
| Project Minimum | $25,000 minimum. | Varies; some take small repair jobs alongside remodels. |
| Reviews | 5.0 star Google rating, 7 reviews and growing. | Varies by contractor. |
The main difference is project management and communication. AK Renovations is owner-led on every job, with daily proactive updates and a custom client portal. Most general contractors hand the project to a foreman after the contract is signed and communicate reactively when you call. The trade work might be similar; the experience is not.
Sometimes we are not. Sometimes we are. AK Renovations prices for the actual scope, including detailed protection of your home, daily cleanup, project management technology, and fixed-price certainty. Cheaper contractors often quote low, then add change orders during the build that close the gap or exceed our price. We are happy to compare bids side by side.
We have a $25,000 minimum project size, but we build at multiple price points within that. A mid-range Hudson kitchen at $55,000 to $90,000 is core work for us, as is an investment-level project at $120,000 or more. What we do not do is small repair work or one-room cosmetic refreshes under $25,000.
Ask three questions. Who will manage my project day to day? How do you handle change orders and unforeseen issues? Can I see your most recent five projects, finished, mid-build, and just-started? A contractor who hesitates on any of those is not the right fit. AK Renovations answers all three on the first call.
We tell you immediately, propose a fix, and document everything in the client portal. We do not hide issues hoping you will not notice. Things come up on every remodel. The difference is whether your contractor surfaces them with a plan or surprises you at the final walkthrough.
Yes. We have a portfolio of recent Hudson, Bath Township, Fairlawn, and Cuyahoga Falls projects we are happy to walk you through, and in some cases we can arrange an in-person visit to a finished project with a past client. Schedule a consultation and we will set it up.
